The six essential principles of this method are control, concentration, fluidity, accuracy, breathing, and center. For the latter, Pilates focuses on a specific zone of the body known as "center" or "power mansion". This zone is conformed by abdominal muscles, lower back, and buttlocks, and the intention is that, through making strong this collection of muscles, the whole body is working at the same time.
Most of the exercises are performed through a series of smooth and slow movements, also using specificaly designed materials for this discipline. In all this controled movements, we try to achieve the highest possible accuracy possible through breath control, body alignment and, of course, concentration. Like this, violent and uncontrolled gestures are avoided, taking care of the body.
